All Mercy health care providers and locations are
in-network for the new KanCare Medicaid program.

Effective Jan. 1, 2013, the State of Kansas transitioned to a new Medicaid health plan called KanCare. According to the KanCare website (www.kancare.ks.gov), Kansas has contracted with three new health plans, or managed care organizations (MCOs), to begin coordinating health care for nearly all Medicaid beneficiaries. The KanCare health plans are Amerigroup of Kansas, Inc. (Amerigroup), Sunflower State Health Plan (Sunflower), and UnitedHealthcare Community Plan of Kansas (United).

All Mercy health care doctors and locations are in-network for the new KanCare Medicaid program even if not listed in the provider directory. This includes: Mercy Maude Norton Hospital Columbus and all Mercy physicians and providers.

“Since these changes took effect Jan. 1, we have received many calls from patients who are concerned about their health care coverage, particularly because Mercy is not listed in their information as an in-network provider,” said Cindy Neely, president of Mercy Maude Norton. “We understand that this new process is rather confusing and there are still bugs to be worked out. However, the important message we want patients to know is they are indeed covered if they choose to use a Mercy provider or facility. Our staff is happy to help answer questions, and we appreciate everyone’s patience as we work through this transition period.”

Under the new system, each Medicaid consumer is assigned to one of the KanCare health plans, and, according to the web site, consumers will receive all of the same services they currently receive through their new plan. During the first 90 days of 2013, consumers have the option to change to a different KanCare health plan if they choose. After the April 4 deadline, consumers will be assigned to their health plan for one year, but may change to a different plan when the next annual open enrollment period begins.

The previous HealthWave and HealthConnect Kansas programs have been replaced by the KanCare health plans.

More information about KanCare providers at Mercy may be obtained by calling Mercy Maude Norton at 620-429-2545 ext. 415. For details about the new KanCare health plan, individuals should contact the company to which they have been assigned.
